how covid19 spreads
COVID19 is caused by a coronavirus strain called SARS-CoV-2.
Coronaviruses are common. Coronaviruses circulate among humans and some species of animals. Most cause mild illness, like the common cold. Their severity varies from strain to strain.
COVID19 is a new disease, or a new coronavirus, that has not impacted humans before. It is not as mild as others and demands extra precaution as we fight it’s outbreak.
Extremely contageous, COVID19 is understood to spread from person to person through respitory droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or speaks. These droplets released in the air can carry the virus and land in the mouths and noses of people who are nearby or possibly inhaled into the lungs.
Someone does not need to be showing symptoms to be carrying the virus. Many can spread COVID19 by being asymptomatic (not showing any symptoms). Spread is more likely between people in close contact (within about 6 feet).
Contaminated surfaces such as cardboard, plastic, clothing, and other surfaces that get touched often can carry COVID19.
Physically distancing, washing hands, wearing masks, and disinfecting surfaces are the best ways we can combat COVID19 together.
